Pet Sitting
Some animals travel well.
Most don't.
And a boarding kennel is the opposite of a holiday for a cat.
For a dog, boarding is often fine. For a cat, it's an ordeal: unfamiliar smells, unfamiliar noises, unfamiliar animals behind the wall. Cats don't attach to people alone, they attach to their territory. Take that away and they stop eating properly, hide, and come back stressed.
The simpler solution: the animal stays where it is – and someone comes. I check in as often as needed, take care of food, water and cleanliness, take dogs out, and stay a few extra minutes if someone wants company.
What I do on every visit
Beforehand I go through with you what your pet needs – the amount, the time, the quirks. I write it down, so nothing runs on memory alone.
- Feeding to your instructions
- Fresh water, cleaning the bowl
- Cleaning the litter box, changing litter
- Walks, as long as agreed
- Playing, brushing, keeping company
- Medication per your instructions
- Watching behaviour and appetite
- Airing the home, moving the shutters
- Bringing in the post, watering plants
- Cleaning up small accidents
- Photo update after every visit
- Calling you immediately if anything's off
If something isn't right
I keep an eye on whether food was eaten, whether behaviour has changed, whether the litter box looks different than usual. Those are the things that tell you something's wrong – often before it becomes visible.
If something catches my attention, I call you. In case you're not reachable, I set beforehand what applies then: the name and number of your vet, and how far I may decide on your behalf. That's an uncomfortable two-minute conversation that's worth a lot in an emergency.
Why talhelfer
What you get out of it
Home instead of boarding
No unfamiliar smells, no unfamiliar animals. The territory stays, only you are briefly away.
Photo after every visit
You see that your pet ate and is doing well. Without having to ask.
Meeting beforehand
I come to your place in advance. Your pet should know me before I'm standing alone at the door.
The home looks lived-in
Post comes in, shutters move, it gets aired. Incidentally the best burglary deterrent there is.

What pet care costs
I bill by time: 37.50 € per hour, with part-hours billed proportionally. A normal cat visit takes 20 to 30 minutes, a dog walk correspondingly longer.
For several visits a day or longer absences, I agree on a fixed price for the period in advance – so you know the cost before you leave.
The introductory meeting is free. I want to have met your pet calmly once, and you should know who you're giving the key to.
Service area
Where I work
I care for animals in Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern, Bad Wiessee, Gmund and Kreuth. Further out only where I can reliably get there several times a day – with animals that's not a question of goodwill but of travel time.
Frequently asked questions
What I'm most often asked
How much does pet sitting cost at the Tegernsee?
At talhelfer, pet care costs 37.50 € per hour, with part-hours billed proportionally. A cat visit typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, a dog walk longer. For several visits a day or longer absences, I agree on a fixed price for the whole period in advance.
Which animals do you look after?
Cats, dogs, small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as birds and fish. I don't take on horses, reptiles with special housing requirements, or animals that need specialist veterinary or behavioural care.
How many times a day do you come?
That depends on the animal. For cats, one to two visits a day is usual; for dogs, at least three, because they need to go out regularly. I set the rhythm together with you at our first meeting, and I'll tell you honestly if I think more is needed.
Do you stay overnight in the home?
No, I don't stay overnight with my customers. For dogs that can't be left alone for long, overnight care makes more sense – I'm happy to refer you on rather than offer something that wouldn't do the animal justice.
Can you give my pet medication?
Tablets, drops, ointments and spot-on treatments I give according to your instructions. For insulin injections or other injections, let me know in advance, and I'll go through it with you when we meet. Whatever I can't do, I'll tell you openly.
What happens if my pet gets sick while I'm away?
I call you immediately. In case you're not reachable, I agree in writing beforehand which vet I'll go to and how far I'm allowed to decide on your behalf. I clarify that at our first meeting, so no time is lost in an emergency.
Do I meet you beforehand?
Yes, always. I come to your home before the first visit, go through everything with you, and your pet can take its time getting to know me. It costs nothing and doesn't commit you to anything – but it makes the difference between a stranger in the home and someone familiar.
